Pittsburgh, PA – Light snow drifts through the air this morning as Western Pennsylvania braces for another cold push to end the week. The calm scene could change quickly by Saturday night, when a fresh round of snow and plunging temperatures may create slick roads across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a weak clipper system will move in late Saturday, bringing a 60% chance of accumulating snow across Allegheny, Washington, and Fayette Counties. Areas south of Pittsburgh could see the most accumulation — possibly one to two inches before tapering early Sunday.

Motorists should prepare for slippery travel conditions, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Refreezing from earlier flurries could also create icy patches through Sunday morning, particularly along I-79, I-70, and rural stretches of Route 119. Visibility may briefly drop during heavier bursts of snow, so allow extra time and reduce speeds.

Behind the system, Arctic air floods into the Ohio Valley. Highs on Sunday will struggle to reach 25°F, with lows dipping into the teens and single digits by Monday morning. Wind chills could make it feel closer to zero in some spots.

Meteorologists warn that this pattern will persist into next week, keeping conditions frigid across much of the Great Lakes and Appalachians. Residents are urged to layer up, check heating systems, and look out for neighbors as the coldest stretch of December so far settles in.
