Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A fast-developing line of severe storms is set to hit Ohio and Pennsylvania by early Sunday evening, with wind gusts strong enough to knock out power and hail capable of damaging cars within hours.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a level 3 of 5 severe risk covers much of Ohio and western Pennsylvania through Sunday night. Storms are expected to intensify after 4 p.m., with the most dangerous conditions likely between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. A few discrete storms ahead of the main line could briefly rotate, increasing the risk for an isolated tornado.
The highest impact zone includes Columbus, Akron, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Wind gusts between 55 and 70 mph may bring down trees and power lines, especially along major corridors like I-70, I-71, and I-76. Isolated gusts near 75 mph remain possible. Large hail up to 2 inches in diameter could dent vehicles and cause window damage in stronger storms.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items immediately, charge devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during the evening hours when heavy rain could reduce visibility to less than a half mile.
Storms will continue pushing east across Pennsylvania overnight, with additional warnings likely as conditions evolve through Sunday night.
