Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Drivers across the tri-state region face immediate travel hazards early Friday as floodwaters cover roads and low-lying areas following overnight rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Flood Warning remains in effect until 7:15 a.m. Friday for parts of eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and northern West Virginia. Radar estimates show 1 to 2 inches of rain has already fallen, with additional rainfall continuing through the early morning hours.

Flooding is ongoing or imminent along creeks, streams, and flood-prone roadways, especially in Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, and Beaver counties. Several roads in Westmoreland County are already reported underwater. In the Pittsburgh metro area, communities including Penn Hills, Monroeville, McKeesport, and Moon Township are seeing rising water levels that could block key routes during the morning commute.

Further south and west, Wheeling, Weirton, and Steubenville are also dealing with high water near smaller streams and poor drainage areas. In eastern Ohio, Belmont, Jefferson, and Harrison counties remain under threat as runoff continues to funnel into waterways.

Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads, especially before sunrise when visibility is limited. Even shallow water can stall vehicles or sweep them away.

Conditions should gradually improve after sunrise, but additional advisories may be issued if water levels fail to recede quickly.
