Youngstown, OH – Travelers along the Ohio–Pennsylvania border should prepare for a wet and wintry stretch of weather through Thanksgiving week, with rain arriving Wednesday and lake-effect snow developing behind it, according to updated Weather Prediction Center maps.
According to the WPC, widespread rain will move into the region early Wednesday, affecting communities from Youngstown, Warren, and Boardman to Sharon, Hermitage, Meadville, and Erie. The heaviest rainfall is expected along the I-80 and I-76 corridors during the afternoon and evening. This will likely slow traffic on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
As the storm lifts north and colder air filters into the Great Lakes, snow showers are expected to develop Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27, 2025). The Lake Erie snowbelt—from Ashtabula County into Erie County—will have the best chance of seeing accumulating snow. Areas along I-90 near Conneaut, Geneva, North Kingsville, and Erie may experience bursts of heavy lake-effect snow, creating reduced visibility and slick roads.
Farther south toward Youngstown, Hubbard, and Hermitage, scattered flurries or light snow are possible with minimal accumulation, though a few icy spots cannot be ruled out.
By Black Friday (November 28, 2025), another cold push reinforces lake-effect snow potential along Lake Erie. Snow bands may continue through the morning hours, especially east of Cleveland and west of Erie. Early shoppers in the snowbelt should prepare for slippery roads, gusty winds, and rapidly changing weather conditions.
Travelers along the Ohio–Pennsylvania border should plan for rainy conditions Wednesday, light to moderate lake-effect snow Thursday, and continuing snow chances Friday, particularly along the I-90 corridor.
