Pittsburgh, PA – Drivers across eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania may face dangerous travel conditions Thursday morning as dense fog blankets the region, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in several locations.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Pittsburgh, Wilmington, and Cleveland, widespread patchy fog formed overnight due to clear skies and lingering humidity. The fog is especially thick along the Ohio-Pennsylvania border, impacting cities like Steubenville, Youngstown, and New Castle, with visibility varying drastically over short distances.

Motorists along I-70, I-77, and local routes through Tuscarawas, Jefferson, Belmont, Mercer, and Venango counties should reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and remain alert for sudden drops in visibility. Morning commuters in Akron, Canton, and Wheeling are also urged to exercise caution through 9 a.m.

In the tri-state area, including parts of northern West Virginia, visibility may improve rapidly after sunrise, but brief bursts of dense fog could persist in valleys and rural stretches. No school delays have been reported, but conditions may affect early travel and delivery routes.

Fog is expected to lift between 8 and 9 a.m., but officials warn another round could return Friday morning under similar conditions.
