Pittsburgh, PA – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, warning of freezing rain and slippery road conditions through early Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers east-central Ohio, southwest and western Pennsylvania, and northern West Virginia, including the northern panhandle. Freezing rain is expected to create an ice glaze of up to a tenth of an inch, with less than an inch of snow also possible.

The advisory remains in place from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday, with hazardous conditions likely to impact the Wednesday evening commute. Drivers should prepare for slippery roads and allow extra travel time.

Authorities recommend executing pre-planned activities cautiously and staying off the roads if possible. Residents in Allegheny County and surrounding areas should monitor updates for changing conditions.

Emergency management officials advise carrying an emergency kit in vehicles, including blankets, water, and a flashlight. Bridges and overpasses may ice over quickly, creating additional hazards.

Travelers should check local traffic reports and road conditions before heading out.
