Columbus, OH – Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, were tragically killed in a bicycle accident Thursday night in Salem County, New Jersey. The brothers, aged 31 and 29, were struck by a vehicle on Pennsville Auburn Road in Oldmans Township.
According to New Jersey State Police, the driver, 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and has been charged with two counts of death by auto. The crash occurred just one day before the Gaudreaus’ sister, Katie, was set to be married.
The Columbus Blue Jackets expressed their shock and devastation at the loss of Johnny and Matthew, describing Johnny as a beloved member of the community.
