Ohio wakes to a sharp, biting cold, with light flakes drifting across fields and pavement already slick in spots. Snow intensity increases through the day, setting the stage for hazardous travel and worsening road conditions as the weekend progresses.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Monday morning, with widespread snow and periods of reduced visibility across southwest and central Ohio. Cold Weather Advisories continue as wind chills plunge well below zero at times.

Statewide, impacts stretch from the I-70 and I-71 corridors south into the Ohio River Valley. Snowfall totals between 8 and 12 inches are expected in parts of southwest Ohio, including Clinton County. Roads may quickly turn slushy, then icy, as temperatures struggle to climb. Flash freezing becomes a real concern once snow melts during daylight and refreezes after sunset.

In Wilmington, snow becomes steadier into the afternoon, with accumulations building rapidly. Travel may become very difficult into Sunday night and early Monday, especially on untreated roads. Drivers should plan extra time, carry emergency supplies, and avoid unnecessary trips once snowfall rates increase.

Dangerous cold follows the snow. Arctic air settles in behind the system, keeping highs in the teens and lows near or below zero early next week. Wind chills could dip to 10 below zero, increasing the risk of frostbite with prolonged exposure.

More advisories are possible as this system evolves. Conditions may deteriorate quickly, especially during peak travel periods. Traveling Sunday or early Monday? Share what you’re seeing on the roads.
