Cincinnati, OH – The National Weather Service in Wilmington announced Friday that the frost–freeze program has officially ended for much of west-central and central Ohio, while southern and southeastern counties remain under the program as colder nights continue.

According to the NWS update, counties in yellow on the agency’s latest map— including Mercer, Miami, Clark, Champaign, and Greene—have concluded their frost–freeze coverage for the 2025 growing season. The blue-shaded areas, however, including Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Adams, Highland, Pike, and Ross counties, will remain under the frost–freeze program until consistent freezing temperatures occur.

The frost–freeze program marks the period when forecasters issue freeze warnings to protect crops and sensitive vegetation. Once it ends, those alerts are no longer issued until next spring.

Residents in the remaining active zones are advised to continue protecting outdoor plants and disconnect garden hoses ahead of overnight lows expected in the upper 20s to low 30s this weekend.
