Cincinnati, Ohio – Breath hangs in the air this morning as biting wind cuts across bridges and open roadways, sending loose flakes skittering across wet pavement. MLK Day begins with a sharp winter edge, and conditions are already challenging for drivers and early commuters across the Ohio River Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through Tuesday morning as Arctic air pours into southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeast Indiana. Wind chills are hovering near zero, with actual temperatures in the teens and lower 20s. Light snow showers and flurries are expected at times today, creating isolated slick spots despite minimal accumulation.

Across Hamilton County and into Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties in Kentucky, gusty west winds may reach 30 mph. Visibility can drop briefly during snow showers, especially on exposed routes like I-75, I-71, and I-275. Even a thin dusting can lead to flash freezing as daytime melting refreezes after sunset.

This cold snap does not let up quickly. Temperatures stay well below normal through Tuesday, with highs struggling to reach the upper 20s. By Wednesday, a weak system may bring a mix of rain and snow during the afternoon, though significant accumulation is not expected. Still, changing precipitation can create slushy patches before another cold night.

Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook signals colder-than-normal air lingering across the Midwest, while precipitation chances rise late next week. For now, bundle up, limit time outdoors, and plan extra travel time. Roads may look fine, but winter often hides its slickest spots.
