Ohio — Frost glazes windshields, and breath hangs thick in the air. The cold feels aggressive this morning, pressing hard across the Ohio Valley as an Arctic blast refuses to loosen its grip.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning. Wind chills have plunged as low as 15 degrees below zero, creating a real risk of frostbite with prolonged exposure. Even short trips outside feel biting, especially before the sun gains strength.

Patchy freezing fog developed early, leaving slick spots on bridges, ramps, and untreated roads. Visibility briefly drops in pockets, and drivers may encounter sudden icy patches. Slow down and leave extra space, especially along river valleys and shaded streets.

Temperatures struggle to climb today, topping out near 24°F in Cincinnati. Winds stay light, but the cold remains stubborn. Tonight turns clear and quiet, with lows near 5°F, setting the stage for refreezing on any damp pavement.

By Monday, clouds increase and temperatures moderate slightly into the lower 30s. That modest warm-up may help, but winter hazards linger. Any melting during daylight hours can freeze again after sunset.

Attention shifts to Tuesday, February 3rd, when light snow chances return. Accumulations appear minor for now, generally under an inch, but timing during daytime travel could cause brief disruptions. Another system later in the week may bring additional snow from Thursday into Friday.

Across the broader Midwest and East, deep cold remains locked in place. With the Great Lakes heavily frozen, cold air masses linger longer and reinforce winter patterns well into early February.

Dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
