Ohio — Damp pavement reflects streetlights this morning as mild air lingers across the Ohio Valley. It feels calm for now, but change is already in motion as a strong cold front lines up to the west.
Clouds dominate early, with patchy fog possible in spots. Temperatures hover in the low 50s, unusually mild for late December. That warmth sets the stage for a fast-moving system arriving Sunday.
Rain spreads into the Cincinnati area Sunday morning and continues through the afternoon. Winds strengthen quickly as the front approaches. Gusts near 30 mph develop by midday, especially along open roadways and bridges.
By Sunday evening, conditions deteriorate. Meteorologists now tracking the system say isolated damaging wind gusts are possible as the front passes. After the front clears, temperatures fall sharply. Wind gusts over 40 mph become more likely Sunday night into Monday.
Rain may briefly mix with snow, then change to scattered snow showers late Sunday night. Accumulation looks limited, but slick spots could form fast as colder air rushes in. This is prime time for flash freezing, especially on untreated roads and ramps.
Plan extra time if traveling late Sunday or early Monday. Use caution on I-71, I-75, and I-275, where gusty winds and sudden temperature drops could impact drivers.
Monday stays blustery and colder, with highs near the mid-30s. Snow showers taper, but the wind keeps it feeling much colder. Tuesday turns quieter, with sunshine returning and highs near 30.
Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve Wednesday, cold air remains in place. A few snow showers are possible, keeping winter travel concerns active as 2026 approaches.
