A steady wind hums through the Ohio fields this morning as the region braces for its first true taste of December winter. Skies stay quiet today, but by midweek, conditions will turn sharply colder and snowier for parts of east Indiana, northern Kentucky, and central Ohio.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, gusty winds up to 45 mph are likely Wednesday, followed by several rounds of accumulating snow from late Wednesday through Friday night. While totals remain uncertain, forecasters warn 3–5 inches may pile up in parts of central and western Ohio, especially north of I-70.

Travelers should plan extra time Wednesday afternoon through Friday. Visibility could drop quickly in bursts of snow, and wet pavement may refreeze overnight, leading to slick conditions during the morning commute. Winds will make it feel even colder, with wind chills dipping near zero by Saturday morning.

“Very cold air will filter into the region by the weekend,” forecasters said, adding that below-normal temperatures could persist well into next week. Residents are urged to check furnaces, layer up, and keep emergency kits in vehicles in case of travel delays.
