Fort Wayne, Indiana – Severe thunderstorms are set to sweep across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio through 8 p.m. Friday, bringing threats of damaging winds, large hail, and localized power outages.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for 23 Indiana counties—including Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Elkhart—and 5 Ohio counties, including Defiance, Paulding, and Van Wert. Storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph, frequent lightning, and isolated tornadoes.

In Indiana, the highest impacts are expected along U.S. 24 and I-69 corridors, with potential delays and downed trees reported as storms intensify. Emergency management teams in Allen and Kosciusko counties are urging residents to secure outdoor items and prepare for brief but intense downpours.

In northwest Ohio, Williams and Fulton counties may see brief road flooding and reduced visibility during peak commute hours. School districts in the area have advised against evening travel for outdoor activities.

Residents should avoid non-essential travel, charge mobile devices, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates.

The watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. EDT. Additional warnings may be issued if storm activity strengthens.
