Dayton, OH – The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Freeze Warning effective from midnight tonight until 10 a.m. EDT Saturday, as sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are forecast across central, south central, southwest, and west central Ohio, as well as east central Indiana.

The warning includes major cities such as Columbus, Dayton, Springfield, Hamilton, Newark, Chillicothe, and Richmond (IN), along with counties including Franklin, Montgomery, Greene, Butler, Warren, Pickaway, Fairfield, Fayette, and Union.

According to the NWS, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and may damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Officials urge residents to cover plants, bring in potted flowers, and drain or insulate outdoor pipes and sprinkler systems before temperatures drop overnight.

The warning marks one of the coldest nights so far this fall, signaling a likely end to the growing season for many areas across Ohio and Indiana. Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly later in the weekend, but Saturday morning’s freeze will be widespread and potentially damaging.
