Wilmington, Ohio – Heat is set to intensify across Ohio in the coming days, with the state experiencing dangerously high heat indices, peaking in the low 100s by Thursday and Friday. This surge in temperatures will pose serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
According to the National Weather Service, cities like Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus could see maximum heat indices reaching 101°F by Thursday, July 24, and continuing through the weekend. The heat index—what the temperature feels like when humidity is factored in—will soar well above 100°F, making outdoor activities dangerous, particularly between noon and 6 p.m.
In Cincinnati, temperatures will climb to 94°F by Wednesday, but with the humidity, it will feel like 101°F. Dayton and Columbus can expect similar conditions, with highs near 95°F, but the heat index pushing 100°F. Communities south of the Ohio River, including Portsmouth and Maysville, will also face extreme heat, reaching 97°F by Thursday.
