Cincinnati, Ohio – Southwestern Ohio residents face dangerous heat today as the heat index climbs above 100°F in more than a dozen cities, with Cincinnati and Dayton projected to reach a sweltering 105°F by 4 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24. The highest risk period runs from 1 p.m. through 6 p.m., when oppressive humidity combines with afternoon temperatures to produce life-threatening heat indices. Cincinnati, Chillicothe, and Circleville are expected to feel the worst, nearing 106°F–107°F.

Columbus and Springfield will also break the triple-digit mark, with peak heat indices near 103°F. The advisory covers much of southern and central Ohio, including Dayton, Portsmouth, and Richmond.

Health officials urge residents to stay indoors if possible, hydrate frequently, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours. Vulnerable populations, especially children and the elderly, should be monitored closely. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks and wear light, loose-fitting clothing.

Temperatures will slowly cool after sunset, but humidity remains high into the evening. Further advisories may be issued if Friday’s heat persists.
