Cleveland, Ohio – Ohioans from Toledo to Akron will face oppressive heat Thursday, with heat index values climbing as high as 104 degrees in some communities—posing a significant risk of heat-related illness across much of north central, northeast, and northwest Ohio.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24. The highest heat and humidity will impact areas along and west of the I-77 corridor, including Lucas, Cuyahoga, Lorain, Summit, and surrounding counties.

Residents in Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, Lorain, Canton, and nearby cities can expect challenging conditions, especially in the afternoon and early evening. Local emergency agencies urge people to drink plenty of water, seek air-conditioned spaces, avoid direct sun, and check on neighbors or relatives—particularly the elderly or those without access to cooling.

Outdoor workers and anyone spending extended time outside should wear light clothing, limit activity to morning or evening hours, and watch closely for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, such as headache, dizziness, or rapid pulse. Some schools and community centers are opening as cooling stations, and extra caution is advised for those with outdoor events or travel plans.

The extreme heat is expected to ease by Thursday night, but further advisories may follow if high temperatures persist. Stay tuned to local updates and be prepared to take action as needed.
