Columbus, OH – A widespread frost advisory is in effect across much of Ohio, bringing a sudden dip in temperatures that could damage sensitive vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the advisory covers areas from central to southern Ohio, including Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, and surrounding counties. The alert begins at midnight Wednesday and continues through 9 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures expected to fall into the mid to upper 30s overnight.
The chill will affect counties such as Franklin, Hamilton, Montgomery, Delaware, Butler, Greene, and Pickaway, among others. The advisory also stretches into parts of southeast Indiana and northern Kentucky, impacting cities like Richmond and Maysville.
Officials warn that frost could severely harm or kill unprotected outdoor plants. Residents are urged to cover or bring in tender vegetation tonight to avoid damage.
Although April frosts are not uncommon in Ohio, the cold snap follows a period of warmer weather that may have encouraged early planting. Gardeners and farmers should take extra precautions.
This advisory does not include any wind chill threats, but skies will remain mostly clear, allowing temperatures to plummet quickly after sunset. Warmer conditions are expected to return by the weekend.
