Cleveland, OH – The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Freeze Warning in effect from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. EDT Saturday, as sub-freezing temperatures are expected to dip to around 31 degrees, especially inland from Lake Erie.
The warning covers a wide stretch of north central, northeast, and northwest Ohio, including Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Sandusky, Erie, Lorain, Hancock, Seneca, Huron, Medina, Wyandot, Crawford, Richland, Ashland, Wayne, Stark, Marion, Morrow, Holmes, and Knox counties.
According to the NWS, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, while unprotected outdoor plumbing may be at risk of damage. Residents are urged to cover plants, bring in potted flowers, and wrap exposed pipes before midnight.
Low temperatures are expected to hover in the mid to upper 30s near Lake Erie, but drop below freezing farther inland, marking one of the coldest nights so far this fall.
Temperatures will gradually warm later in the weekend, but Saturday morning’s freeze could end the growing season for much of the region.
