Cincinnati, Ohio – Heavy rain and repeated thunderstorms could bring flash flooding to dozens of counties across Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky beginning Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Flood Watch is in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. Monday, covering major urban areas like Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus, as well as rural counties such as Ripley (IN), Lewis (KY), and Pickaway (OH). The alert warns that multiple rounds of thunderstorms could drop several inches of rain, leading to dangerous runoff and flooding in low-lying areas, creeks, and roadways.

Communities across Hamilton, Montgomery, Butler, Warren, and Greene counties are at elevated risk, particularly near smaller rivers and flood-prone intersections. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and obey all barricades. Residents in mobile homes or areas with poor drainage should have a plan to move to higher ground quickly.

This system follows a week of already soggy conditions, raising the potential for rapid-onset flooding, especially overnight when visibility is limited. Emergency responders may be stretched, so proactive preparation is key.

The Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 a.m. Monday, and additional warnings may be issued as storms redevelop through the night.
