Cleveland, OH – Northeast Ohio residents will see two extremes today: dangerous Lake Erie swimming conditions and plenty of sunshine by week’s end.

According to the National Weather Service, a Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through late Wednesday, October 1. Strong winds and wave action are creating powerful rip currents across Erie, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake, and Ashtabula counties in Ohio, as well as Northern Erie County, Pennsylvania. Swimmers are urged to stay out of the water, as currents can sweep people away from shore and along structures extending into the lake.

While conditions remain risky at the shoreline, inland residents can expect calm, fall-perfect weather. Wednesday’s high will reach near 70 degrees under sunny skies. The warmup continues Thursday with highs in the mid-70s before peaking near 78 by Friday.

Looking ahead, the weekend offers a taste of summer with sunshine and highs near 80 degrees both Saturday and Sunday. Winds remain light, making conditions ideal for outdoor plans and even Halloween decorating. By Monday, highs climb into the low 80s before a chance of showers develops Tuesday with cooler air moving in.

5-Day Forecast for Northeast Ohio:

  • Wednesday: High 70, sunny, rip current risk on Lake Erie.
  • Thursday: High 74, mostly sunny, light winds.
  • Friday: High 78, clear, warming trend begins.
  • Saturday: High 80, sunny, calm winds.
  • Sunday: High 80, sunny, seasonal and warm.

Stay updated through local alerts if planning lakefront activity. For safety, avoid entering Lake Erie waters until conditions improve.
