Marysville, OH – The Union County Sheriff’s Office announced the successful completion of its fall DEA National Drug Take Back event, held Saturday, October 25. The collection effort resulted in 56 pounds of unused, unwanted, and expired prescription drugs being safely turned in for disposal.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the initiative was a partnership between the Union County Health Department, Memorial Hospital, Jerome Township Division of Fire, Pleasant Valley Joint Fire District, Plain City Police Department, and Richwood Police Department. The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. across multiple collection sites.

Officials reported the following totals from Saturday’s collection: 35 pounds from the Sheriff’s Office, 10 pounds from the Pleasant Valley/Plain City location, 5 pounds from Richwood Police, and 6 pounds from Jerome Township Fire.

Sheriff Mike Justice said the effort is part of an ongoing commitment to reduce the risk of drug misuse and overdose. “We’re honored to partner with our community to collect unneeded medications and remove them from potential abuse,” the release stated.

Residents who missed the event can still dispose of medications safely at the Union County Sheriff’s Office or other local police departments. Drop boxes are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Since April 26, 2025, Union County has collected a total of 169 pounds of prescription drugs through take-back events and drop boxes combined.
