Cleveland, Ohio – Swimmers across central and eastern Lake Erie beaches face dangerous conditions today, with wave heights building to 3-6 feet and a moderate to high risk of rip currents through this evening.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland office, these hazardous swim conditions impact beaches from Lakeview Park to Presque Isle. A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for these areas. Additionally, a Small Craft Advisory is active for much of Lake Erie due to breezy conditions.
A cold front sweeping east across the region through this afternoon brings scattered showers and thunderstorms. Wind gusts are expected to reach 20-30 mph, further contributing to the elevated wave heights and rip current threat. Residents are strongly advised to stay off the water, obey all posted signs and closures, and avoid piers, breakwalls, and river outlets. These precautions are critical for safety, as strong rip currents can quickly pull even experienced swimmers away from shore.
The dangerous swim conditions and advisories remain in effect through this evening. Further updates will be issued by the National Weather Service Cleveland office if conditions change or persist.
