Dayton, Ohio – Unhealthy ozone levels are expected across southwest Ohio on Tuesday, prompting an all-day Air Quality Alert for the Miami Valley region, including Dayton, Springfield, and surrounding areas.

According to the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency, the alert is in effect from midnight through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday for Montgomery, Clark, Greene, Miami, Preble, Shelby, and Darke counties. Ground-level ozone concentrations may reach levels considered harmful, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.

Residents are urged to limit driving, delay mowing with gas-powered equipment until evening hours, and avoid refueling vehicles until after 8 p.m. “Every small change helps reduce air pollution,” said a regional advisory from the MVRPC.

Urban centers like Downtown Dayton, Springfield, Troy, and Beavercreek are expected to see the highest concentrations. Those with asthma or other lung conditions should limit outdoor activity, particularly during afternoon and early evening hours when ozone levels peak.

The air alert may be extended if weather conditions persist. For updates and tips on reducing ozone, visit miamivalleyair.org.
