Ogden, Utah – A strong surge of cold, dry air will bring the season’s first widespread freeze to northern Utah tonight into Tuesday morning, threatening outdoor plants and irrigation systems. The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Freeze Watch from late Monday night through Tuesday morning for the Northern Wasatch Front and Eastern Box Elder County, including Ogden, Bountiful, Brigham City, and Snowville.
Forecasters expect overnight lows to dip between 29 and 32 degrees, especially in rural and outlying areas west of I-15, such as Plain City, West Weber, and West Haven. These temperatures are cold enough to kill sensitive vegetation and freeze exposed plumbing if unprotected.
The National Weather Service advises residents to cover tender plants, drain sprinkler systems, and insulate outdoor pipes ahead of the freeze. Pet owners and growers should ensure animals and crops are sheltered from the cold.
According to Utah emergency management officials, this freeze may mark the effective end of the growing season across much of northern Utah. Conditions will warm slightly by midweek, but another cold front could return by Friday, keeping overnight temperatures near freezing into the weekend.
