Oakland County, Michigan – Two 19-year-old men were arraigned Wednesday in Novi and ordered held without bond in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Inkster man whose body was found at Proud Lake Recreation Area, authorities said.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the two men were arraigned Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, in 52-1 District Court on open murder charges connected to the Feb. 16 shooting death of Andre Sontay Avant Jr.
The sheriff’s office said Dshaun Omar Hatton-Street, 19, of Romulus, and Stephan Larryl Shaw, 19, of Taylor, are charged with using a firearm in the commission of a felony in the slaying. Authorities alleged the pair is responsible for Avant’s death.
The men were arrested Thursday in Romulus by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, the release said.
Avant’s body was found early Monday, Feb. 16, in Commerce Township near the Proud Lake boat launch on Wixom Road after a park visitor discovered him, the sheriff’s office said. An autopsy concluded Avant died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the manner of death a homicide, according to the release.
Investigators said the suspects and the victim knew each other, but none had a connection to the area where the crime occurred. The sheriff’s office said none of the men had known criminal histories.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, at 9 a.m. before Judge David Law, according to the release. Authorities also said a third person was initially detained with the two suspects during the investigation but was later released.
