Oak Park, IL – A 23-year-old Oak Park man has been charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of his brother Sunday afternoon, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Authorities say the charge against Miles Brooks, of the 400 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, was approved Tuesday, Nov. 4, in connection with the death of his brother, Anthony Brooks, 26.
According to Oak Park police, officers responded at about 1:47 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, after a 911 caller reported that Miles Brooks had allegedly shot his brother during an altercation inside their shared residence. The caller told dispatchers they advised Miles to exit the home unarmed, which he did before officers arrived.
Responding officers found Miles Brooks outside and unarmed. Inside, police discovered Anthony Brooks unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics from the Oak Park Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.
Brooks was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Oak Park Police Department. He remains held pending a detention hearing at the Cook County Fourth Municipal District courthouse in Maywood.
