Oak Park, IL – Drivers traveling through Oak Park should prepare for a temporary lane closure and possible delays Thursday morning as crews investigate a potential water main break along Ridgeland Avenue.

According to the Village of Oak Park, Public Works crews will temporarily close the southbound lane of Ridgeland Avenue beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, between Lake Street and South Boulevard.

Crews are scheduled to inspect a possible water main break in the area. The village did not specify how long the inspection or lane closure is expected to last, making it important for commuters to plan for potential delays.

Drivers who normally travel southbound on Ridgeland Avenue are being asked to use an alternate route. The village recommends taking Lake Street west to East Avenue as a detour around the affected section.

The closure is near central Oak Park and could affect morning travel through the western Chicago suburb, particularly for motorists using local streets to connect with other major routes. Drivers should allow additional time and watch for temporary traffic controls, workers and equipment near the closure.

Although the advisory specifically calls for the southbound lane to be temporarily closed, motorists traveling elsewhere around Ridgeland Avenue, Lake Street and South Boulevard could encounter additional traffic as vehicles divert from the affected area.

The village advised residents and commuters to plan ahead and allow extra time for their trips Thursday. Drivers should also check for updates before heading into the area in case the closure schedule changes as Public Works crews inspect the possible water main issue.
