Honolulu, HI – The National Weather Service Honolulu has issued a Red Flag Warning through 6 PM HST Saturday for leeward areas of Niihau, Kauai, and Oahu, where gusty winds and dry air are combining to create dangerous fire weather conditions.
Forecasters report east winds of 15–25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, and relative humidity as low as 43%. These conditions can cause any wildfire that starts to spread rapidly and become difficult to control.
The warning covers a wide stretch of leeward Oahu — including Honolulu Metro, Ewa Plain, Waianae Coast, Central Oahu, and the North Shore — as well as Niihau and southern to western Kauai.
While higher humidity levels have reduced fire danger over Maui County and the Big Island, the NWS says critical fire weather will persist across western islands through this evening. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to avoid activities that could spark flames, such as using machinery or open flames near dry vegetation.
