New York City, NY – A blast of Arctic air is set to grip the New York metro area through Monday, bringing the coldest stretch of the season so far.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, temperatures will tumble into the 20s Sunday night, with highs on Monday struggling to rise above freezing. Forecast highs range from 30–32°F in New York City and Long Island to the mid-20s across interior Connecticut and the Hudson Valley.
Saturday night will see lows in the mid-20s across the city and upper teens to low 20s farther north, while Sunday’s highs hover near 40°F. The real cold sets in Sunday night as lows again plunge into the 20s. By Monday, daytime temperatures are expected to be colder than normal nighttime lows for early December.
Areas such as White Plains, Danbury, and Poughkeepsie could see highs in the upper 20s, while Bridgeport and New Haven are forecast near 30°F. Even coastal communities like Islip and JFK Airport may not reach the freezing mark.
The National Weather Service warns that wind chills will make it feel even colder, especially during the morning and evening commute hours Monday. Residents are urged to dress in layers and protect pets and pipes from the bitter cold.
Warmer conditions are expected to return midweek, but Monday will mark a sharp reminder that winter’s chill has arrived early for much of the tri-state area.
