New York, NY – A powerful winter storm delivered widespread snowfall across the New York City Tri-State region, setting daily snowfall records and dumping more than half a foot of snow in some communities.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, over six inches of snow fell across parts of the region since Saturday evening, with several official sites reporting record-setting totals. Daily snowfall records were broken at both JFK Airport and Islip on Sunday.
Islip recorded 5.8 inches of snow, making it the snowiest day at that site in nearly four years. JFK Airport measured 4.6 inches, while LaGuardia Airport reported 2.6 inches. Central Park recorded 2.7 inches from the storm.
Some of the highest snowfall totals were reported across Long Island and nearby areas. Commack, New York, led the region with 8.5 inches of snow. Babylon picked up 6.2 inches, while White Plains reported 4.6 inches. Newark, New Jersey, measured 4.1 inches, and Harrison, New Jersey, reported 3.9 inches. In Connecticut, Guilford saw 4.7 inches and Clinton recorded 3.6 inches.
The storm created slick road conditions and slowed travel across the region, especially during the height of snowfall Sunday morning and afternoon. Crews worked through the day to clear roads, sidewalks, and airport runways as temperatures remained cold enough to keep snow on the ground.
While the heaviest snow has moved out, officials caution that lingering cold temperatures could allow icy patches to redevelop overnight, particularly on untreated roads and walkways.
Residents are urged to continue using caution while traveling and to stay updated on local forecasts as additional winter weather remains possible later this season.
