Portland, Ore. – Dangerous triple-digit heat will grip much of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington from Sunday through early Tuesday, prompting Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories across the region. The National Weather Service warns this heat wave will affect a large portion of the population, especially those without access to effective cooling or hydration.

According to the NWS in Portland, the Extreme Heat Warning runs from 12 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Tuesday, while a Heat Advisory will be in place from noon Sunday through 11 p.m. Monday. Areas under the warning include Portland, Salem, Eugene, and surrounding interior lowlands, where daytime highs could soar well above 100°F.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Those seeking relief are advised to use cooling centers or shaded public spaces and to limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours. Swimmers in local rivers should wear life jackets as heat can lead to dangerous fatigue in the water.

Heat-related alerts may be extended if high temperatures persist beyond Tuesday morning.
