Norton Sound, AK – Coastal residents in Norton Sound and the Yukon Delta should prepare for elevated water levels and potential minor flooding this weekend as a coastal storm moves in. Local officials warn that high surf and beach erosion are expected, particularly along the eastern side of Norton Sound.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Fairbanks, flood advisories have been issued, with the highest risk occurring from Saturday through Sunday. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, potentially leading to dangerous coastal conditions. Residents should secure property and avoid low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding.

In the Kuskokwim Delta, flood watches are also in effect as onshore winds between 35 and 45 mph may create hazardous conditions along the coast. The strongest impact is forecast for Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon. Residents are urged to follow updates and move belongings to higher ground.
