Indianapolis, Indiana – Drivers across northwestern and central Indiana will contend with dangerously low visibility this morning as dense fog blankets the region until 9 a.m. Monday, leading to hazardous travel on several major roadways.
According to the National Weather Service Indianapolis, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for counties including Tippecanoe, Montgomery, Parke, and Fountain, where visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less through mid-morning. The advisory includes key routes such as I-65 near Lafayette and US-41 near Rockville, with patchy fog possible elsewhere across the region.
Motorists should slow down, use headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles—especially along the I-74, I-65, and US-231 corridors. Local officials recommend delaying early morning travel if possible and staying alert for sudden drops in visibility, particularly near rivers and low-lying areas. School buses and delivery routes could also see delays as fog lifts.
Today’s fog event is the thickest so far this July, similar to dense conditions seen last summer. Drivers are urged to remain cautious as the advisory may be extended if visibility fails to improve after sunrise.
