Duluth, MN – Lake effect snow continues to impact northwest Wisconsin Monday, with the heaviest accumulations expected near Mellen and Upson through 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a northwest flow over Lake Superior has triggered lake effect snow bands along the South Shore. While most areas in northeast Minnesota will see snow taper off by midday, portions of Bayfield, Ashland, and Iron counties in Wisconsin may receive 3 to 6 additional inches by Monday evening. Communities like Saxon and Upson are expected to be among the hardest hit.
Snowfall is forecast to diminish from west to east throughout the day. By afternoon, most of the Arrowhead region in Minnesota, including Duluth and Two Harbors, should see snowfall cease. However, the persistent lake effect will linger along the Wisconsin shoreline into the evening hours.
Drivers in northern Wisconsin should be alert for slippery roads and sudden visibility drops, particularly on U.S. Highway 2 and County Highway 77. Residents are advised to delay non-essential travel and clear snow early to prevent ice buildup.
This event follows a pattern of late-season lake effect snow typical for the region, though totals surpassing 5 inches in late March remain above average.
