Superior, WI – A series of Winter Weather Advisories go into effect this afternoon across northwest Wisconsin, where quick-moving lake-effect snow bands are expected to create slippery roads and fast-changing visibility through 6 AM Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Duluth.

Price County (Phillips)

From noon today to 6 AM Sunday, 2–4 inches of snow are expected. While totals are modest, slick roads are likely, particularly on rural highways and untreated surfaces.

Douglas & Iron Counties (Superior, Hurley)

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 PM today to 6 AM Sunday, with 3–5 inches expected and 4–6 inches possible in northern Iron County.
A fast-moving lake-effect band may deliver snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour, briefly reducing visibility and coating roads quickly.
This region includes the northwestern area of the Lac du Flambeau Band.

Bayfield & Ashland Counties (Bayfield, Washburn, Ashland, Apostle Islands)

The advisory runs from 2 PM today to 6 AM Sunday, bringing 3–5 inches, with localized totals up to 6 inches possible.
The Bayfield Peninsula, Chequamegon Bay, Red Cliff and Bad River Tribal Lands, Madeline Island, and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore may see brief but intense snowfall.

NWS cautions that lake-effect snow can create sharp weather contrasts—heavy snow in one area with dry pavement just a few miles away. This makes driving especially challenging along Highway 2, Highway 13, and rural county roads.

Travelers should reduce speed, allow extra time, and be ready for quick visibility drops. Statewide road updates are available at 511wi.gov.
