Burlington, VT – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for portions of northern Vermont and northeastern New York through 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington.
The advisory covers Franklin, Chittenden, Orleans, Lamoille, and Grand Isle Counties in Vermont, along with Clinton and Essex Counties in New York. Forecasters expect an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow overnight, bringing total accumulations to 3 to 5 inches for many areas, including Burlington, St. Albans, Plattsburgh, and Ticonderoga.
According to meteorologists, a burst of heavy precipitation will transition from rain to snow Monday evening, with a brief wintry mix possible in between. Snowfall rates may exceed 1 inch per hour at times, leading to rapidly deteriorating road conditions and slick surfaces as temperatures drop near freezing.
Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra time for the Tuesday morning commute, particularly along Interstate 89 and U.S. Route 7. For current road conditions, travelers can visit newengland511.org for Vermont or 511ny.org for New York updates.
Steady snow is expected to end by late evening, but icy conditions may linger into early Tuesday morning before temperatures begin to rise.
