Lubbock, Texas – West Texas is warming up fast Thursday as temperatures climb into the upper 80s and low 90s, with Aspermont expected to top out at 93°F and Childress close behind at 89°F. Sunny skies and light northwest winds are creating a dry, warm stretch for much of the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, high temperatures on May 16 will range from 83°F in Friona to 93°F in Aspermont. Winds will remain light from the west-northwest around 10 mph, providing some relief from the heat but increasing fire weather concerns in dry areas.
Lubbock, Plainview, and Brownfield are all expected to hit 88°F or higher by mid-afternoon, with no major cloud cover or precipitation in sight. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor work during peak heat, and monitor pets and vulnerable individuals.
This is the warmest day of the week so far across northwest Texas, signaling an early summer pattern that could persist through the weekend. No advisories are currently in effect, but updates will follow if fire danger or wind speeds increase.
