Amarillo, Texas – Triple-digit temperatures will scorch the Texas Panhandle through Friday, with Amarillo and surrounding areas baking under highs nearing 105° and little relief in sight until the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, Wednesday through Friday will be the peak of the heat event, with widespread highs from 99° to 105° across the region. Lows overnight will remain in the upper 60s to mid-70s, providing minimal cooling. A Heat Advisory may be issued if conditions persist, particularly for Potter, Randall, and Carson counties.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during the afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. The risk of heat-related illness increases significantly when overnight temperatures stay elevated.

Relief may begin arriving Saturday as temperatures drop into the upper 90s, with increasing cloud cover and isolated thunderstorms developing. By Sunday and Monday, scattered rain chances rise to 30%, offering some break from the extreme heat.

More alerts could be issued if storm development intensifies or if heat risks increase further into the weekend.
