Schaumburg, IL – Commuters in the northwest suburbs will see smoother travel starting this week as Schaumburg marked the opening of the newly expanded Pace Northwest Transportation Center on Kimberly Drive.
According to the Village of Schaumburg, officials, Pace executives, and community leaders gathered Sept. 10 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the hub, located at 1730 Kimberly Dr. The $7.1 million expansion, funded through Rebuild Illinois and Pace capital, introduces a modern indoor waiting area to provide a safer and more comfortable space for passengers.
The project aims to improve accessibility for ADA paratransit riders while serving the more than 1,000 passengers who transfer buses at the site each day.
Schaumburg Mayor Tom Dailly said the center reflects a long-term investment in both residents and infrastructure. “For Schaumburg, this expansion represents an investment in people, not just infrastructure. It means greater access, independence, and opportunity,” Dailly stated.
The Mayor also recognized former Mayor Al Larson, who served more than 20 years on the Pace Board of Directors and was a vocal advocate for public transit in the community.
Officials noted that the expansion strengthens Schaumburg’s role as a regional hub for mobility, while aligning with Pace’s broader goals of sustainability, accessibility, and innovation in public transportation.
