Erie, PA – The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for northwest Pennsylvania, where snow and gusty winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions from early Wednesday morning through Wednesday night.
The advisory, in effect from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST Wednesday, December 10, includes Crawford and Southern Erie Counties, affecting cities such as Meadville, Corry, Edinboro, Titusville, and Union City.
Forecasters predict 3 to 5 inches of snow, with southwest wind gusts up to 35 mph. The system may begin with a brief mix of freezing rain or sleet before turning to all snow overnight. The heaviest snowfall is expected during the pre-dawn hours and Wednesday morning commute, when visibility will be low and roads may become slick.
Travelers should expect slow, slippery conditions on major routes including I-79, I-86, and Route 19, and allow extra time to reach destinations.
As temperatures drop Wednesday night, the storm is expected to transition into lake-effect snow, potentially adding more accumulation into Thursday morning. Forecasters note that the advisory could be extended if snowfall continues along the Lake Erie shoreline.
Motorists are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and monitor weather.gov/cleveland for updates.
