Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Snow-covered roads and gusty ridge-top winds are slowing the Wednesday morning commute across parts of northwest and southwest Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, with slippery conditions expected to linger until early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. EST Wednesday for Venango, Forest, Clarion and Jefferson counties, along with the higher elevations of Westmoreland, Fayette and Indiana counties in Pennsylvania, and Eastern Preston and Eastern Tucker counties in West Virginia. Snow totals between 2 and 4 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts in the Laurel Highlands and the higher terrain of northern West Virginia.

Wind gusts up to 30 mph are possible regionwide, while exposed ridge tops could see gusts near 40 mph. Blowing snow may briefly reduce visibility along Route 30 near Ligonier, Route 219 through Somerset County and higher stretches near Canaan Valley and Ohiopyle.

Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and prepare for snow-packed secondary roads. Conditions should gradually improve after 1 p.m., but slick spots may persist into the evening, especially in shaded and elevated areas.
