Erie, Pennsylvania – Drivers across southern Erie County could face slick roads and reduced visibility Sunday as lake effect snow bands intensify, bringing several inches of accumulation and strong wind gusts through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from late Sunday morning through early Monday for southern Erie County. Snow totals between 3 and 5 inches are expected, with winds gusting up to 35 mph. The combination of falling and blowing snow may make travel slow and hazardous, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

The advisory includes Corry, Edinboro, and Union City, where lake effect snow is likely to develop quickly as winds shift off Lake Erie. Open and elevated roadways could become snow covered in a short period of time, and drifting snow may further reduce visibility at times.

Wind chills are expected to drop into the teens Sunday night as blustery conditions persist, increasing the risk of exposure for anyone outdoors for extended periods. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations.

PennDOT is encouraging drivers to delay unnecessary travel and monitor road conditions at 511PA.com. Snow showers should gradually taper late Sunday night, but lingering slick spots may remain into early Monday as cold air holds in place.
