Cleveland, OH – The National Weather Service says no changes have been made to Friday’s Winter Storm Watch for northwest Pennsylvania, where accumulating ice and mixed precipitation are expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain will spread across northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania Friday morning. Precipitation is expected to transition to rain from west to east, with much of northern Ohio seeing plain rain by around 11 a.m. However, pockets of freezing rain are expected to linger across far northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania into Friday evening.
Forecast ice accumulation totals show up to 0.25 inches possible across inland portions of northwest Pennsylvania, where the Winter Storm Watch remains in effect. Elsewhere across northern Ohio and nearby areas, ice accumulations are generally expected to range from 0.01 to 0.10 inches.
The National Weather Service said the highest confidence in impactful weather remains over northwest Pennsylvania, where accumulating snow and ice could lead to slick and hazardous travel conditions, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Residents and travelers are urged to use caution during the Friday commute and to monitor updated forecasts in case watches or advisories are adjusted as the system moves through the region.
