Astoria, OR – The National Weather Service in Portland has extended a Flood Advisory until 4 a.m. PST Tuesday, December 9, 2025, for portions of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, where heavy rainfall continues to cause urban, small stream, and minor river flooding.

The advisory includes Clatsop and Columbia Counties in Oregon, along with Cowlitz, Pacific, and Wahkiakum Counties in Washington, affecting communities such as Astoria, Longview, Kelso, Rainier, Clatskanie, Raymond, and Cathlamet.

Rain gauges show 3 to 6 inches of rainfall have already fallen, with an additional 1 to 3 inches expected overnight as a strong atmospheric river continues to move across the region. The Cowlitz and Grays Rivers are rising rapidly, and ponding of water on roadways and flooding of low-lying areas have been reported.

Flooding may impact Highway 30, US 101, and several rural routes near Kelso, Ocean Park, and Frances. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

Meanwhile, a separate Flood Advisory remains in effect for Kittitas County, Washington, where heavy rainfall and rising water levels along the Yakima River continue to cause minor flooding near Elk Meadows. That advisory remains active through Tuesday morning.

Residents are urged to stay alert and check local updates from weather.gov/portland and weather.gov/pendleton.
