Enid, Okla. – Heavy rainfall continues to raise flooding concerns across northern and northwest Oklahoma tonight, with the National Weather Service keeping a Flood Watch in place until Monday morning. The watch includes Alfalfa, Grant, Kay, Major, Garfield, Noble, Harper, Woods, and Woodward counties, where rivers, creeks, and low-lying roads may flood.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, several rounds of rain have already saturated the ground, leaving the region vulnerable to flash flooding. Heaviest rain is expected along U.S. Highway 64 from Buffalo through Enid and east toward Ponca City. Rural roads and low-water crossings will be especially hazardous overnight.
Emergency managers urge residents in flood-prone areas to be prepared to move to higher ground quickly if water levels rise. Motorists are advised not to attempt driving across flooded roads, as water depths can be deceptive and currents strong.
Rain is expected to ease by sunrise Monday, but lingering high water could keep some roads closed into the morning commute. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall totals exceed expectations overnight.
