Toledo, Ohio – Damaging winds and heavy rain could strike Northwest Ohio Saturday afternoon as a strong line of thunderstorms sweeps through the region, bringing the threat of isolated large hail and even a brief tornado.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the greatest chance for severe weather is Saturday, July 12, particularly between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe storms covers much of northwest Ohio, including Toledo, Findlay, and Sandusky. Forecasters say strong wind gusts will be the primary hazard, but saturated ground could also increase the risk of localized flooding.

In cities like Fremont, Marion, and Mansfield, rain chances climb above 80% by Saturday evening. Akron-Canton, Youngstown, and Cleveland will likely see storms later in the day, with downpours possible overnight into early Sunday. Rainfall totals could top 1 inch in some areas, especially where storms repeatedly move over the same location.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and secure outdoor items that could blow away in high winds. Residents should also charge devices and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts in case warnings are issued.

Thunderstorms remain possible through Sunday, especially in northern Ohio. More advisories may follow if conditions worsen.
