KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A sharp drop in temperatures will snap Kansas City residents from fall warmth to jacket weather by midweek, as a developing cold snap signals the season’s first widespread frost risk across northern and central Missouri. Monday starts mild and breezy, but by Wednesday morning, the air turns crisp enough for early-morning frost on lawns, roofs, and windshields—especially north of I-70.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, today’s highs reach the low 70s under sunshine before a brisk northwest wind ushers in cooler air tonight. By Tuesday, highs fall into the low 60s, then plunge into the 30s and low 40s by early Wednesday. Rural counties from Atchison and Holt east toward Macon and Linn could see patchy frost before dawn Wednesday and Thursday.

Drivers and early commuters should allow extra time for possible frost delays and reduced visibility in sheltered valleys. Residents are urged to bring in sensitive plants, cover outdoor faucets, and ensure pets have warm shelter.

The cool pattern looks brief but sharp. Sunshine returns Wednesday afternoon with highs in the upper 60s before another weak system slides through late Thursday, increasing cloud cover and bringing a 40–50% chance of showers into Friday.

Models hint at another cool push next weekend, signaling fall’s steady march toward winter. For now, expect crisp mornings, clear afternoons, and a few wet patches late in the week—a classic Missouri weather shift.
