St. Joseph, Missouri – Snow-packed roads and limited visibility could snarl travel across north central and northwest Missouri starting Friday evening, as a prolonged winter storm moves into the region.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning takes effect at 6 p.m. Friday and continues through 6 p.m. Sunday, with 4 to 6 inches of snow expected in cities like St. Joseph, Chillicothe, Cameron, and Plattsburg. Snow will fall steadily for nearly 48 hours, with the most intense bursts anticipated late Friday into Saturday night.
I-29, US-36, and MO-6 are among the routes most likely to be impacted by slick and snow-covered surfaces. MODOT advises drivers to delay travel if possible and prepare for slow-moving commutes and temporary road closures, especially in rural stretches where plow access is limited.
Communities in Buchanan, Livingston, Clinton, and Chariton counties should prepare for power interruptions and check on neighbors who may need assistance during the storm. Officials emphasize the importance of charging devices and staying indoors during periods of heaviest snowfall.
The Winter Storm Warning remains in place through Sunday evening. Forecasters say additional alerts are possible depending on how the storm evolves into early next week.
